Growing up, I remember seeing books featuring girl lead characters who enjoyed brushing horses or babysitting. In the time of strong female characters such as Wonder Woman, it is perfect to have a story of a girl who is up for a little danger and intrigue.

MRS. SMITH’S SPY SCHOOL FOR GIRLS (Aladdin) by Beth McMullen is a fast-paced adventure with a great balance of humor and heart. The main character, Abigail, is sent off to the Smith School for Children boarding school against her wishes, but soon learns there is more going on than meets the eye.

Abigail learns that the school is actually the secret training ground for an elite spy organization and her mother is the top agent. When her mother goes missing, it is up to Abigail to prove to everyone, including herself, that she is more than up for the task.

This book will be one that any kid (boy or girl) will have trouble putting down. McMullen’s first venture into Middle Grade is spot on – hitting the trifecta of voice, pacing and character development. I am looking forward to what happens next!

The book launched on July 4th, so happy belated book birthday! The good news is that the book is available now – click here to buy the book.
