This is a perfect middle grade ghost story! Mysterious Scottish fog bank + trio of curious youngsters + vengeful ghost = WINNER.

The town of Journey’s End is exactly the kind of place you’d expect to find a ghost. It’s cold, wet and isolated. No one is surprised there’s a fog bank stuck off shore. They call it The Boundary because it separates land from sea. It’s not an ordinary fog bank though. Legend says it’s the result of a curse! Boats get lost in it and from time to time when the light in the lighthouse goes out, it drifts closer to land making buildings and people disappear! Someone has to go into the fog to the lighthouse to light the light. The problem is they never return.

Twelve- year old Nollie Stanhope is an American visiting her scientist father who is studying The Boundary. She makes friends with a Scottish girl named Bel and they find a strange boy named Al who bears an uncanny resemblance to a boy who disappeared in 1918. Has he come back in time from the fog? When the light in the lighthouse goes out, the fog creeps towards land. Will it make parts of the town disappear? The trio must find a way to save the town before it is too late even if it means coming face to face with the ghost!

With relatable characters, a great mystery and a lot of heart, Journey’s End is a must read.
