Thomas Wildus and The Book of Sorrows delivers a satisfying adventure story about a boy who discovers he has magical powers.

Twelve-year old Thomas needs a little magic in his life. Things have been difficult since his father died. Dealing with ordinary middle school drama is hard enough, but being puzzled by his father’s last words to him is harder. His father said, “Magic is real, Thomas. No matter what happens, always remember magic is real.” Determined to find out everything he can about magic, Thomas ends up in a bookstore where the owner loans him a mysterious book. Soon he realizes not only does the book tell the story of the origin of magic, it can tell if the reader has magical abilities. Before long he is on an adventure that takes him to China’s Yunnan province and a canyon in Chiapas, Mexico where he must work with a secret society of magicians to find magic crystals before a villain does. This is the beginning of an exciting new series.
