Attack of the Killer Komodos is book 2 in the Maggie and Nate Mystery Series. Book 1, also totally worth you adding to your reading list is The Mutant Mushroom Takeover. To get the best feel for the character, you may want to start with Book 1, but Book 2 does more than enough to stand on its own.

Komodos wastes no time as it jumps right into the action as Maggie and Nate come across an actual living, breathing Komodo dragon in the middle of the Yellowstone National Park – and it is far from friendly. The two are not sure what to make of things as Maggie’s park ranger father could be wrapped in the mysterious animal.

Short does a great job of blending action thrills with humor and mystery. On top of all of that, there are plenty of STEM connections for educators to draw on to make this a recommended read for any middle school classroom.

While it took me a moment to get used to the first-person, present-tense perspective, Short provides everything needed to make this a true page-turner. Attack of the Killer Komodos is a title both kids and fans of MG stories.
